5 Helpful Patterns For Your Spiritual Growth

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen (2 Peter 3:18). To grow spiritually, there are some basic patterns we need to adopt. If we don’t, we will remain babies in the things of God. If you want to pass the baby stage then these are some patterns or habits that you should develop.

This goes without saying right? Every believer knows that it is important to spend time in prayer communicating with God. But knowing this doesn’t always translate to us doing so. The Bible tells us to pray without ceasing (1 Thess. 5:17). If the Bible tells us to pray at all times then there must be a reason for it. Prayer is about us making our request for God’s will to be done in our lives daily. We need this constant communication to sustain our connection to  God.

Reading and meditating on the word of God

Another pattern to help your spiritual growth is to spend time in the word. Spending time in the word gives you the opportunity to learn about God’s promises for us. That is far from the only reason though, you learn about who he is and how believers then lived the Christian walk so we can emulate them.

Devotional Time

Another helpful pattern to develop is a consistent devotional time. This is actually a time when you can create the two previous patterns of bible reading and prayer. Some persons like to use a devotional book at this time because it focuses on a theme they may be trying to work on it there lives. A devotional book is not a must because you can read your bible, pray and listen to worship music during this time. Whatever works for you.

5 helpful patterns for your spiritual growth

Hear the word and do what it says

This is one of the most important patterns to adopt. James 1: 22-24  lays it out clearly by saying, ” Be doers of the word, and not hearers only. Otherwise, you are deceiving yourselves. For anyone who hears the word but does not carry it out is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror, and after observing himself goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like”

While this is a most necessary pattern to adopt, we often find our selves not being obedient because it doesn’t suit us. We can often be obedient to some of the more obvious ones like not stealing but when it comes to things like gossiping and loving other neighbors some people find these harder to do. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit lives in us and is continually working on our minds to make us more like Jesus daily.

Share the word with others

Another great pattern to adopt is sharing God’s word with others. It is a part of the believers’ responsibility to share the word of God with others. We are all tasked with the duty of making him known to others. A simple way to do this is to share what you took away from your devotional time with someone you interact with during the day. You could also share it through your social media platform to your family and friends.

Is there any pattern or habit you are trying to build now?
