If people can’t see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; But when they attend to what he reveals,
they are most blessed (Proverbs 28:18 MSG)
Why is having a vision for your life important? It is important because it prevents us from being confused and taking paths in life that were not meant for us.
A God-given vision is an idea of the direction God wants you to take with your life. Your life’s vision is much like having a child and understanding what they want to do in the future and steering them along the right paths. You guide them about the subjects to focus on in school, the extracurricular activities that will best help them in their future career path and so on. You do everything to make sure they can succeed when they begin working their chosen career.
One of my favorite books on the topic of vision is The Power of Vision by Dr. Myles Munroe
Having a vision for your life is important because:
Vision guides the choices you make.
When you have an understanding of what is ahead it allows you to make wise choices. You know where you are headed and because of this, you know what is good or bad for your future. You understand with clarity those opportunities that will get you there and those that are a waste of time.
Having a vision helps you decide how to you spend your free time.
When you have a vision it helps you to decide what to do with your free time, whether you are going to take advantage of learning opportunities or leisure activities you would choose ones that are connected to your vision.
Makes long-term planning possible
When you have a vision you can do advance planning because you know where you are headed. Instead of just focusing on the needs of the immediate future you can generate ideas to work on long-term.
Having a vision helps to determine how to use your resource
It gives you clarity about the when and what to use your resources for. For example, if you desire to become more knowledgeable about two things, your vision will inform you of which one to focus on first.
I hope that you already have a vision for your self for this year. If not, its never too late to start putting some things in place.
