What time is it? Is it time for the countdown? 1 minute. Alright, let’s go. Now, now, time for the countdown, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6….. As we counted down to the new year, amidst all of the champagne, the excited crowds, and all the sparkle, I couldn’t help but reflect on God’s goodness in the year we were about to leave behind. I couldn’t help but feel grateful for all he had done for me.
There were many times I didn’t trust his faithfulness. There were many times I didn’t hold on to him as closely as I should, but he never let go of me. I’m thankful that the love of God is greater and better than any love I could ever experience and his love is unconditional. His love does not change based on our behavior.
What I did or didn’t do last year does not change how he feels about me. To be honest, that is quite reassuring, to know that no matter what, God’s love for me is unchangeable.
I am grateful to God that his mercies are new every morning. I’m thankful that regardless of the mistakes I make each day his undeserved favor is available to me. I’m thankful the opportunity exists in Christ to seek forgiveness for my sins. And so, “I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High.” Ps. 7:17
