What makes you anxious? Is it your financial, health, work or family life? All of us would give a different answer to this question. For some of us it is only one thing, for others it is a myriad of concerns. But what if we could replace our anxieties with God’s peace?
The Bible tell us, “do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”.
You have the freedom to approach God with your anxieties by prayer, petition and thanksgiving. Then live with the expectation that God’s peace will guard your heart.
A pastor once said, when he is faced life’s difficulties, he always filters his worries through the words, the Lord is faithful. It is that belief in his faithfulness which helps us to trust that his peace is possible. This is the ultimate exchange, give God your anxieties and claim his peace.
Do you believe that all things will work out for your good?
Even when things are difficult you have God’s assurance that he “works for the good of those who love him”(Romans 8:28). God is faithful, his word does not change. The Bible says, “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever” (Isaiah 40:8 NLT). He does not change so you can trust every word he has given us.
When you think about all the worrying that you do, does it help? Does it change anything? Anxiety leads to pain and negative health conditions. What changes the outcome is accepting this peace that God’s offers, knowing it comes with freedom.
Release all, not some anxieties
Do not give some of your anxieties to God and hold on to others. Release everything to him. This is difficult but by God’s grace you are able to do it.
1 Peter 5: 7 says, “cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you”.
God cares for you and he wants you to put all your anxieties on him. Make the exchange. Every care, every burden that you carry. Is your burden about the career you are pursuing? Lost opportunities? Is it about comparing your success to that of others? God wants you to release it all because he is capable of giving you rest.
Change your old reaction to a new one
All of this is about having a new reaction to an old situation. Where you would normally surrender to anxiety, you reach for the word of God. The word of God is” the sword of the spirit?” (Ephesians 6:17). Use it to defend yourself against the attacks of the enemy. Your anxieties are attacks from the enemy because his desire is to stop you from living your purpose. Thankfully, within us is the Spirit of God to help us when our flesh wants to react in the old ways.
Whatever anxieties you face today, no matter how difficult it may seem, God is more than able to give you rest from them. Reach out to him in prayer today and ask him to help you to do so.
