I knew You

As a parent, I was exhilarated upon getting the news about having a child. As my  pregnancy progressed I became excited about finding out what the child growing on the inside of me looked like and eager to hear the first thuds of her beating heart.

Just to get a glimpse of my future bundle of joy from an ultrasound picture was a thrilling experience. Sharing this also became a pleasure, whether those on the receiving end were enthused or not!

But imagine, Before God formed us he knew us. For me this is a moment to pause. He knew me before I was in my mother’s womb. He saw me and prepared for me. He knew who I would be and all the plans that he has for me. His foresight is amazing!

Knowing the great love that God has for us causes me to imagine him looking lovingly at us before we were formed; just as a parent looks at that ultrasound picture of their unborn child with love.

As I looked at the ultrasound picture I got lost in my dreams for this child. I imagine God the father smiling over the plans he has for us, the dreams he will give us, the capabilities we will have, the territories that we will take, the battles we will fight, the victories that will be won,the scars we will acquire, the paths we will take and the lessons we will have to learn.

As I looked at the image, I thought about the world that my child would be born into. What adjustments we would have to make for this child, there will she go to school, where will she live, will she have friends and who will she marry .

So I see the heavenly father lovingly looking at us in our unformed state and planning in advance for us. It is so remarkable as (Acts17:26 NLT) says, “from one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands”.

I remember being wowed by the image in my hand as I thought about the person this child would be. Would she be  quite by nature or would she be a more active child. Would she be kind and caring, would she look out for others? Would my heart overflow with love for her or would it build up like a crescendo.

Our father God looking at us, does not have to wonder because he knows all the possibilities for us and what our nature will be. He doesn’t have to wonder whether he will love us because he already does. He does not need to wait months to see us to make any determinations about his feelings for us. He loves us now.

At the end of the day it doesn’t matter to him because he knows us. He knows our spirit and he loves us just as we are. His love is not conditional on whether we have ten fingers and toes, half a brain or a full brain, easy on the eyes or not so easy on the eyes, big or small, too tall or too short. His affections for us are not predicated on any of our attributes. Only on his great love for us.

We can delight in our perceived limitations because his magnificence can be manifested through them if we allow Him.
